Dr. Omowale Akintunde
A man of many talents best describes Dr. Omowale Akintunde, Chair of the University of Nebraska at Omaha Black Studies Department. Dr. Akintunde is a prolific writer, well published in the subjects of education, race relations and diversity. He is the author of two books “Multiculturalism and the Teacher Education Experience” as well as a children’s book “The Adventures of Darrell and the Invincible Man”.
Dr. Akintunde holds Bachelor of Science and Master of Music Education degrees from Alabama State University and also earned a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction and African American Studies from the University of Missouri. His other research interests include Hip-Hop culture, gender studies, and epistemology
The always dapper Dr. Akintunde is also in demand worldwide as a lecturer and has made international television appearances as well as appearances on Fox News’ "Crier Report" with Catherine Crier and MSNBC’s “Morning News”
Dr. Akintunde merges his exceptional writing talents and interest in race relations together in “Wigger”. A short version of the film, starring Meshach Taylor, was his thesis at the New York Film Academy where he graduated from the Conservatory Program in Filmmaking. Other film credits include: “Communion” and “Mama ‘n ‘Em” which was selected for the prestigious Hollywood Black Filmmaker Festival.
Dr. Akintunde has recently finished directing the full-length version of “Wigger” . There is much anticipation to see his extraordinary vision unfold onscreen. -vw
